The Court of Cassation 1st Criminal Chamber upheld the sentences given in the Adnan Oktar Armed Criminal Organization case. With the reasoned decision of 550 pages, including the 8,658-year prison sentence given to Adnan Oktar, the convictions against the members of the organization have become final. During the trial, it did not go unnoticed when one of the female defendants said to Oktar, "I watch you with admiration, you are an amazing pleasure, mashallah."
The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation has upheld the 8,658-year prison sentence given to Adnan Oktar and the sentences given within the scope of the Adnan Oktar Armed Criminal Organization. In the reasoned decision, the sentences given to Oktar, including the 8,658-year prison sentence, and the convictions given to the members of the organization have become final.
HE WAS FACING IMPRISONMENT FOR NUMEROUS CRIMES
In the trial of the Adnan Oktar armed criminal organization, which had 72 detained defendants out of 215, the Istanbul 30th Heavy Penal Court announced its verdict on November 16, 2022. The court sentenced the defendant Adnan Oktar to a total of 891 years in prison for the crimes of "organizing a criminal organization," "sexual abuse," "prevention of the right to education," "torture," "deprivation of liberty," and "recording personal data."
Oktar, who was held responsible for the crimes of other defendants due to his managerial position, was sentenced to a total of 8,658 years in prison along with the sentences of other defendants.
HEAVY SENTENCES FOR ORGANIZATION LEADERS
The court also sentenced defendants Alev Babuna, Aylin Atmaca, Ayşegül Hüma Babuna, Bora Yıldız, Ulviye Didem Ürer, Yeliz Sucu, Merve Büyükbayrak, Sinem Hacer Tezyapar, Tarkan Yavaş, Halil Hilmi Müftüoğlu, İbrahim Tuncer, Mehmet Noyan Orcan, and Fatma Ceyda Ertüzün, who were tried on charges of being the leaders of the organization, to 8,658 years in prison each for similar crimes.
The court sentenced 106 defendants to 4 years and 6 months in prison each for the crime of "membership in a criminal organization" and sentenced 8 defendants to 3 years in prison each for the crime of "providing assistance to the organization without being a member."
16 DEFENDANTS BENEFITED FROM EFFECTIVE REMORSE
The panel also imposed various prison sentences on 16 defendants who benefited from the provisions of effective remorse, and sentenced 67 defendants to prison for varying periods for similar crimes.
The court also sentenced the defendant Mert Sucu to 152 years and 5 months in prison for the crimes of "membership in a criminal organization," "sexual abuse," "sexual assault," "resisting the performance of duty," and "attempted murder of two police officers." The cases of 3 defendants were separated. The Court of Appeal found the decision of the Istanbul 30th Heavy Penal Court to be in accordance with the law.
