In Büyükçekmece, a 9-year-old boy broke the arm of his 8-year-old friend in two places. When the family went to the school, they reported that their child was sitting in class with a broken arm, while the unfortunate child who underwent surgery had plates inserted in his arm. It was alleged that the boy who caused the injury took revenge because he was reported to the teacher. On the other hand, it was decided that there would be no prosecution since the children were under 12 years old.
A terrible incident occurred last month at an elementary school located in Tepecik, Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul. According to allegations, 8-year-old Y.K.Ş. was assaulted by a 9-year-old child who had been bothering him at school for some time, resulting in his arm being bent in two. Y.K.Ş.'s arm was broken in two separate places.
DECISION OF "NO PROSECUTION DUE TO AGE"
Teachers called Y.K.Ş.'s family, stating, 'your son fought with his friend and hit the wall.' When mother Songül Gökdemir took her son from school to the hospital, she was shocked to learn that her son's arm was broken in two places and that he would need surgery.
Regarding the incident, mother Gökdemir went to the prosecutor's office to file a complaint. The prosecutor's office decided that 'there is no ground for prosecution due to the fact that the age of the child involved in the crime is under 12.' While mother Gökdemir appealed the decision, the victim Y.K.Ş. has been unable to attend school for weeks. It was learned that the child, whose education has been disrupted, will undergo another surgery in two weeks to have the plates removed.
"WHEN I WENT TO SCHOOL, MY SON WAS SITTING IN CLASS"
Describing the incident, Songül Gökdemir said, "I knew he was being bullied by his friends. He also said that since September, a friend had been trying to break his arm. I told him to 'tell the teacher about his friend.' He was avoiding it. That day, they reported this friend to the guidance teacher. I went to work, and an hour later, his teacher called. 'Your son and his friend pushed each other, he hit his arm on the wall, can you come?' he said. I took him to the hospital on my own. When I went to school, my son was sitting in class. The teacher was teaching, and no ambulance had been called. At the hospital, I learned that he had two fractures in his arm and that he urgently needed surgery. He was taken for surgery three days later. He has a dressing every day due to the plates in his arm. He has another surgery in two weeks," she said.
"HE TOOK REVENGE BECAUSE HE REPORTED TO THE TEACHER"
Mother Songül Gökdemir stated that after the complaint, the school and the other family's representatives came to their home, saying, "The only thing they said was 'we are working, we cannot get involved.' The 4th graders who did this to my son go down to the 3rd graders' floor and push them in a gang-like manner with their hoods pulled up. There is also pushing and hitting other children on the stairs. When the students came to say get well that day, I asked. They said he took revenge because he reported to the teacher in the morning. He told me that. He twists his arm backward. He is already screaming loudly. My son's friends are coming. There are no camera recordings because it was said to have happened in a place not visible to the camera," she said.
