The London-based FairSquare Group sent a letter to the FIFA Ethics Committee requesting an investigation into the alleged violation of the political neutrality rules of the Peace Prize.

A request has been made for the FIFA Ethics Committee to investigate whether FIFA President Gianni Infantino's awarding of the Peace Prize to U.S. President Donald Trump violated political neutrality rules.

FIFA RULES VIOLATED

The London-based FairSquare Group, which aims to promote greater accountability in sports, sent a letter to the FIFA Ethics Committee arguing that Infantino's comments regarding President Trump and the process of awarding the Peace Prize violated FIFA rules. The letter, which claims that Infantino clearly violated FIFA's neutrality rules, stated, "Awarding such a prize to a sitting political leader is a violation of FIFA's obligation to neutrality."

In his speech at the draw for the FIFA 2026 World Cup held in Washington, D.C., Infantino said, "This is what we expect from a leader. You absolutely deserve the first FIFA Peace Prize for the achievements you have made; you have accomplished this incredibly. Mr. President, you can always count on my support."

In FairSquare's letter, it was emphasized that according to FIFA's own statutes, the decision to award such a prize must be made by the FIFA Council, stating, "The FIFA president does not have the authority to unilaterally determine the organization's mission, strategic direction, policies, and values."
