President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, while addressing the Governors' Meeting program, warned the governors about social media, stating, "We witness that the measure sometimes goes awry on these platforms for reasons such as getting likes, increasing interaction, and becoming a topic of discussion." Erdoğan emphasized that public officials should adopt a communication style befitting the seriousness of the state.
In the program held at the Presidential Complex, Erdoğan, speaking about the recent complaints regarding the social media posts of public administrators, emphasized the importance of maintaining privacy and institutional reputation in public communication.
"UNACCEPTABLE SCENES ARE EMERGING FOR THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE STATE"
Erdoğan stated that with the widespread use of digital platforms, the communication activities of public institutions have significantly shifted to social media. He expressed that while this situation is natural, there are increasing examples where the measure has been exceeded, and made the following assessment:
"While people's privacy is being violated, unacceptable scenes for the seriousness of our state are emerging, and communication efforts are turning into either communication accidents or communication crises. I believe that both you and the public officials working under your authority will show the utmost sensitivity in this regard."
"WE WILL NOT FALL INTO POWER INTOXICATION"
Stating that public service requires dignity and responsibility, Erdoğan warned the administrators:
"While serving, we will not fall into power intoxication, we will not engage in career engineering, and we will not pursue any interests other than the safety of our state, which we are honored to serve, and our esteemed nation."
Erdoğan emphasized that administrators should be humble towards the public and highlighted the importance of a management approach that is free from ambition and ostentation.
"THE GREATEST TREASURE IS JUSTICE AND THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE"
At the end of his speech, addressing public administrators, Erdoğan pointed out the following principles that should guide their understanding of duty:
"If an administrator and their team are ungrateful for the blessings and show arrogance towards the public, the blessings that Allah has bestowed from His grace will quickly change hands and belong to someone else. Do not fall into greed. The greatest treasure is goodness, piety, justice, safeguarding the welfare of the people, improving the homeland, investigating and inquiring about the situation of the people, protecting them, and helping the oppressed."
Erdoğan expressed his hope that these words would serve as a compass for governors and public administrators.
