The anchovies are being coy at the stall! Prices have skyrocketed.

In Trabzon Fish Market, anchovies are sold for 275-300 TL per kilogram. Due to their low availability, the price is high, and their late arrival at the stalls worries the fishermen.

Ahmet Çoğalmış, one of the fishermen, stated that "Anchovies have been acting coy lately. They have started to come out less than before. At first, we had hopes when they first appeared, but the continuation of hope is frightening us. Previously, 20-30 crates would come, but now only 3-4 crates are arriving. Therefore, this also reflects on the prices. Anchovies need to show themselves during these months. The low quantity is unsettling for us. The price is between 275-300 TL. The low availability is affecting the prices. Currently, anchovies are coming from Sinop, Istanbul, and everywhere. We hope that the end of the bonito season will lead to an increase in anchovy availability," he said.

BONITO PLENTIFUL, ANCHOVIES SCARCE

Mehmet Örseloğlu, another fisherman, expressed that anchovies started to appear at the stalls in October, saying, "Bonito has started to become plentiful again, and because it is abundant, anchovies are very scarce. Therefore, we can say that anchovies arrive late. Normally, anchovies start to appear at the stalls in October, and they should be arriving now, but due to the abundance of bonito, anchovies are not coming out. When bonito is cut, anchovies will come out, but they won't come out in abundance. Right now, anchovies are being a bit coy, which is why they are not coming out much. The price is 300 TL," he stated.
