ORANGE ALERT FOR 4 CITIES

In the statement, it was noted that, "According to the latest assessments from the General Directorate of Meteorology; an orange alert has been issued for our provinces of Rize, Giresun, Trabzon, and Artvin due to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall until noon tomorrow (September 21, 2025). Due to the excessive rains that have been ongoing in the region for two days, floods and inundations have occurred, and intervention efforts are continuing under the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) based on the reports received.

To coordinate the ongoing intervention efforts on-site, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, our AFAD President Governor Ali Hamza Pehlivan, and AFAD Department Heads have arrived in Rize. Our Ministers and AFAD President, along with Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş, Member of Parliament Harun Mertoğlu, Mayor Rahmi Metin, and representatives of relevant institutions conducted inspections in the affected areas and received information about the ongoing efforts," it was stated.

"In the provinces where an orange alert has been issued, AFAD, 112 Emergency Health, Highways, DSI, Fire Department, Gendarmerie, Police, Special Administration, Municipality, and NGO teams are intervening with a total of 2,614 personnel and 984 vehicles. Efforts are ongoing by the relevant teams to open the roads that have been closed due to excessive rainfall and to resolve power outages. Necessary work has been carried out regarding reports of floods, water inundation, landslides, and people being stranded from our provinces of Rize, Giresun, Trabzon, and Artvin, where an orange rainfall alert has been issued, and road opening works are continuing. We extend our best wishes to all citizens affected by adverse weather events," it was stated.

CALL FOR CITIZENS TO BE CAUTIOUS

In the statement emphasizing that citizens should be cautious against landslides, floods, water inundation, lightning, and disruptions in transportation, it was stated, "It is expected that the ongoing heavy and thunderstorm rains in the Eastern Black Sea will be strong in Giresun and Trabzon provinces, very strong and locally severe (51-100 kg/m2) in the eastern part of Giresun, the western and eastern districts of Trabzon, and the northern parts of Rize and Artvin. Considering the soil saturation, we strongly remind our citizens to be cautious and take precautions against adverse events such as landslides, floods, water inundation, lightning, and disruptions in transportation; and to heed the warnings of the relevant authorities," it was stated.
