New images of the Grand Kartal Hotel, where a fire broke out on the night of January 21, resulting in the deaths of 78 people and injuries to 133, have surfaced in Kartalkaya, one of Turkey's favorite winter tourism centers.
DEVASTATING FOOTAGE HAS EMERGED
The approximately 20-minute footage recorded on the night of the fire reveals the struggle of the people inside to save their lives. In the security camera footage, the flames grow rapidly, and with the LPG leak, their intensity increases, filling the lobby and restaurant corridors with thick smoke.
HOW THE SMOKE FILLED THE INTERIOR
Flames rising from the windows are also captured in the recordings. At 03:27 on the staff floor of the hotel, an alert was made, and the doors of the rooms were opened, with people quickly getting dressed and heading for exits in less than 10 minutes, as reflected in the camera recordings. In another footage, it was seen that the cover on the corridor wall was opened, causing smoke to fill the interior.
PANIC, ESCAPE, AND RESCUE MOMENTS ON CAMERA
The entrance and parking lot cameras revealed the helplessness of people trying to find their way through the smoke, with some attempting to exit the parking lot in their vehicles. Those who exited from the exit on the slope side were recorded watching the fire in panic.
The footage also highlighted some individuals leaving with their bags, while others attempted to re-enter the building. Those who reached the awning from the 6th floor, families with children descending from the windows, ropes thrown to upper floors, and evacuations made with ladders were recorded by the cameras.
