Preparations for a new party by Özgür Özel and his team within the CHP have accelerated. While Özel's faction, which plans to break away from the party with 100 deputies on July 20, faces challenges from immunity reports, the real bombshell behind the scenes came from Ekrem İmamoğlu's front. According to information gathered from the corridors by Haberler.com Ankara Representative Şerife Güzel, İmamoğlu has demanded that the founding process be completed as soon as possible and that the new party's name must include the word 'Yol'.
Following the absolute nullity ruling regarding CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's appointment as General Chairman by court decision, new party efforts have gained momentum.
THE BIGGEST OBSTACLE: IMMUNITY BRIEFS
While continuing negotiations with the Anatolia Union Party against the possibility of a snap election, Özgür Özel and his team, who are also pursuing new party work, are challenged by the immunity briefs filed against them.
FOCUS ON JULY 20
It is discussed that Özel and his team will take action on July 20 regarding either a new party or joining an existing one. It is reported that resignations are planned for July 20, with a gathering at the new address on July 24.
TARGET OF 100 DEPUTIES
It is noted that Özel plans to leave CHP with as many deputies as possible, aiming for a target of 100 deputies. Although assessments from Özel's side indicate no issues with the number, backstage sources suggest reaching this target is quite difficult. It is stated that keeping the number of departing deputies around 50 would make a "strong breakaway from CHP" challenging.
IMMUNITY FILES POSE CHALLENGES
Backstage, it is said that Özel and his team, who continue their new party efforts, are also facing difficulties due to immunity files against them.
WILL THOSE NAMES JOIN THE NEW PARTY?
It is reported that there is debate over whether individuals facing accusations, especially those named in the indictment, will move to the new party.
ÖZEL'S NAME ALSO APPEARS IN BRIEFS
In addition to Özgür Özel, who continues his role as CHP Group Chairman, names including Balıkesir Deputy Ensar Aytekin, Mersin Deputy Ali Mahir Başarır, Istanbul Deputy Gökhan Günaydın, Bursa Deputy Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, Istanbul Deputy Özgür Karabat, Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan, Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba, and Istanbul Deputy Turan Taşkın Özer have immunity briefs against them. Veli Ağbaba, particularly those close to him who have faced detention and arrest warrants, stands out as a focal point of discussions. Claims that proceedings could be initiated against some individuals under the "flagrant offense requiring heavy penalty" clause, which is exempt from legislative immunity as per Article 83 of the Constitution, are also discussed behind the scenes.
NEW PARTY OR AN EXISTING ONE?
A second question being answered within Özgür Özel's camp is whether to form a new party or join one of the existing parties eligible to enter elections. It is stated that Özel and his team, while continuing talks with the Anatolia Union Party (ABP) and pursuing new party efforts, said they would keep ABP ready for a snap election and discussed convening the party's congress on July 18-19 to facilitate Özel and his team's takeover of the party leadership. However, it is noted that negotiations with ABP have been suspended following recent debates.
THE SCALE TIPS TOWARD A NEW PARTY
Backstage, it is mentioned that Ekrem İmamoğlu, cited as the figure behind the new party efforts, wants the word "path" in the party's name and desires the party to be established as soon as possible.
