The expatriate couple living in Belgium filed a complaint after nearly 8 kilograms of their gold stored in a rented safe belonging to a public bank in the Bolvadin district of Afyonkarahisar was stolen. Following this, a customer named S.F.K. also reported that gold and jewelry worth 14 million lira had been stolen. M.A.K., a retired banker who was detained as part of the investigation, was arrested. 8 KILOS OF GOLD VANISHEDAccording to the allegations, R.Ö. and Ü.Ö., who had left approximately 8 kilograms of gold in safes for safekeeping, came to Bolvadin on October 11 to retrieve some of their gold. When R.Ö. went down to the safe room and saw that the gold was missing, he called the authorities. Upon inspection, it was determined that one of the safes was empty, prompting R.Ö. to go to the police station with his lawyer to file a complaint. Following the complaint, crime scene investigation teams arrived at the bank branch to conduct their work. While many fingerprints belonging to family members and numerous other individuals were found in the safe, the prosecutor's office also launched a wide-ranging investigation into the incident. SECOND HEIST WORTH 14 MILLION LIRAS.F.K., who also had a rented safe at the same bank, came to the police on October 24 to report that gold and jewelry worth 14 million lira had been stolen from his rented safe. Following the complaints, the police reviewed the camera footage from the bank. The police detained M.A.K. along with bank employees Ş.B. (49) and V.E.D. (29). The locksmith who was recorded opening the safes was also questioned. RETIRED BANKER ARRESTEDIt was determined that M.A.K., who retired in June and was responsible for the bank's rented safes, had stolen S.F.K.'s gold and jewelry worth 14 million lira. M.A.K. was arrested for 'qualified theft,' while Ş.B. and V.E.D. were released under judicial control. The investigation into the thefts from both safes is ongoing.
