One of the most prestigious restaurant awards in North America has found its winners at a ceremony held in Las Vegas. This year's list made a big surprise by elevating the Atomix restaurant in New York to the top.
ATOMIX AT THE TOP OF AMERICA Atomix in New York has reached the top as the best restaurant in North America. Mon Lapin in Montreal, Canada, and Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Ontario followed Atomix in the top three. These three restaurants reflect the current trends in North American gastronomy by combining a research-based culinary approach, an emphasis on tradition and seasonality, with a sincere service understanding for guests. Experts state that Atomix's success will strengthen the continent's gastronomic influences and lead to a re-evaluation of the definition of "best restaurant."
SPECIAL AWARDS FOUND THEIR WINNERS In the list of North America's best restaurants, special categories also found their winners. Ladder 4 in Detroit was awarded the "Rising Star Restaurant" award for its visionary approach, while Tanière3 in Quebec won the Art of Hospitality award for elevating the guest experience. Asmeret Berhe-Lumax, founder of One Love Community Fridge, was awarded the Champions of Change award for her community-focused work. Susan Bae, chef of Moon Rabbit in Washington D.C., was named best pastry chef, Vanya Filipovic from Mon Lapin in Montreal was named best sommelier, and Chutatip "Nok" Suntaranon from Kalaya restaurant in Philadelphia received the best female chef award. Michael Cimarusti, chef of Providence in Los Angeles, won the Estrella Damm Chef's Choice award, while Normand Laprise from Toqué! and Brasserie T! in Montreal was awarded the Lavazza Icon award. Additionally, SingleThread in Healdsburg, California, received the Sustainable Restaurant Award for its achievements in sustainability.
THE LIST CELEBRATES DIVERSITY William Drew, the content director of 50 Best, emphasized that the purpose of the awards is "to celebrate talent and teamwork, highlight the diversity of food in the region, and promote restaurants that will inspire food lovers worldwide." Drew also noted that this list does not only include fine dining restaurants but also places that offer truly quality dining experiences in North America. Outside of the list, only The French Laundry and Eleven Madison Park were included; these two iconic restaurants were inducted into the "Hall of Fame" due to their previous top rankings in the World's Best Restaurants list and were therefore not included in the ranking.
