It has been claimed that Brigadier General Hakan Tutucu, who voted "no" on the request for the dismissal of the lieutenants in the investigation initiated after the sword oath at the Army War College, has requested his retirement.
While the repercussions of the expulsion of five lieutenants who shouted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" by crossing swords after the official graduation ceremony of the Army Academy continue, a striking claim has emerged. It has been suggested that one of the commanders who voted against the expulsion decision, which was taken with 5 votes against 4, has also requested retirement.
"THE GENERAL WHO VOTED 'NO' REQUESTED RETIREMENT" According to a report in Sözcü, Brigadier General Hakan Tutucu, who voted against the expulsion request, has requested retirement. Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, Lieutenant General Tevfik Algan, who also voted "No," has retired.
Brigadier General Hakan Tutucu WHAT HAPPENED? After the official graduation ceremony of the Army Academy on August 30, 2024, five lieutenants were disciplined for reading the abolished student oath while crossing swords. They received the penalty of 'separation from the Turkish Armed Forces' from the High Disciplinary Board to which they were referred. In the decision taken by the nine-member High Disciplinary Board with a majority of five votes, it was stated that the actions of the lieutenants had caused the Turkish Armed Forces to become a subject of debate, leading to "division in society" and damaging the reputation of the army in the eyes of a nation that has no doubt about its love for the homeland, the nation, and Atatürk. However, four members of the Board, including the Chief of Staff, indicated that the actions of the lieutenants could not be considered as acts of indiscipline and that there was no basis for imposing a penalty of separation from the Armed Forces on the lieutenants.
