In the Amasra district of Bartın, cables hanging from rocks by the roadside caused panic. Teams that took extensive security measures in the area determined that the hanging cables were due to dynamite blocks that were detonated during road expansion work 19 years ago. After the cables and dynamite blocks were collected, the road, which had been closed to traffic, was reopened for use.

TEAMS SPRANG INTO ACTION

Amasra District Governor Muhammed Çetin directed law enforcement forces to the area upon receiving a report that a rock by the roadside in the Ahatlar Village area posed a risk of falling onto the road and that wires were hanging from the hollows in the rock. The gendarmerie and police teams, who went to the scene following the report, took extensive security measures in the area against the possibility of a bomb trap.

The Bomb Disposal teams of the Bartın Police Department also arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. The inspections revealed that there were hollows in multiple rocks by the roadside, and wires were seen hanging from these holes. Initial findings suggested that the wires were connected to previously detonated dynamite sticks, and it was concluded that the wires might have been left at the scene after the detonation.

19-YEAR-OLD TRUTH EMERGED LATER

After the teams determined that the wires and detonated dynamite were remnants of a road widening project from 19 years ago, the gendarmerie teams contacted the officials of the company that carried out the road construction years ago. The company officials confirmed that the wires and dynamite sticks were used during controlled explosions carried out during the road work done 19 years ago. They stated that inspections were conducted after each explosion, and therefore it was not possible for unexploded dynamite sticks to remain.
