The DEM Party has nominated Osman Cengiz Çandar, the Member of Parliament for Diyarbakır, as a candidate for the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The DEM Party delegation submitted the candidacy application to the General Secretariat of the Grand National Assembly.

DEM Party has submitted the name of Cengiz Çandar, the Diyarbakır Member of Parliament, as the candidate for the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

As the second term of the 28th Legislative Period approaches, parties are announcing their candidates one by one. The AK Party has nominated the current TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, while the İYİ Party has announced Cihan Paçacı as their candidate.

DEM PARTY'S CANDIDATE HAS ALSO BEEN ANNOUNCED

Following the AK Party and the İYİ Party, the DEM Party has also determined its candidate. The candidate of the DEM Party, which will compete with its own candidate in the Speaker of the Assembly elections, is Diyarbakır Member of Parliament Osman Cengiz Çandar.

Şanlıurfa Member of Parliament Dilan Kunt Ayan, Bingöl Member of Parliament Ömer Faruk Hülakü, and Mardin Member of Parliament George Aslan submitted the petition for their party's TBMM Speaker candidate to the TBMM General Secretariat.

After submitting the petition, Ayan made a statement to the press, saying, "On June 3, Tuesday, the TBMM will hold the second term Speaker election. We have also nominated our own candidate in this election. Our candidate will be dear Osman Cengiz Çandar, the Member of Parliament from Diyarbakır. We believe that Mr. Çandar will embody the spirit of this process with his experience and expertise. We are fully confident that he will be a democratic and participatory Speaker of the Assembly."

ELECTIONS ON JUNE 3

The TBMM began the election process on May 28. After the applications received in the first five days of the election process, a secret ballot will be held on June 3 to determine the new Speaker of the Assembly.

To be elected as the TBMM Speaker, a candidate must receive 400 votes, which is two-thirds of the total number of 600 members in the first two rounds. In the third round, the candidate who receives the votes of 301 members, which is the simple majority of the total number of members, will be elected as the Speaker.
