The Boeing 747 cargo plane belonging to the international cargo company United Parcel Service (UPS) narrowly avoided disaster while landing at Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan. The plane's right engine scraped the runway during landing due to the strong winds affecting the airport area. Sparks flew from the scraping, but there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident.
Authorities stated that the plane had prepared to land on the runway twice before the accident, but the landing permissions were canceled due to the strong winds caused by Typhoon Podul.
