Hüseyin İldem, a former national wrestler and coach who became world champion by winning a gold medal at the Junior World Championship in 1983, has passed away.
In a statement made by the Turkish Wrestling Federation, it was said, "Hüseyin İldem, the father of our national wrestlers Cenk İldem and Kansu İldem, who is one of the veteran coaches of Greco-Roman wrestling, has passed away. We wish God's mercy upon the deceased and offer our condolences to his family, relatives, and the entire wrestling community."
WHO IS HÜSEYİN İLDEM?
Hüseyin İldem achieved significant success in the 74 kg Greco-Roman style during the 1980s. He made his mark in Turkish wrestling history by winning a gold medal at the Junior World Championship in 1983. He also celebrated championships at the 1980 Islamic Games and the 1989 World Military Wrestling Championship. After his sports career, he continued to serve Turkish wrestling as a coach.
His son Cenk İldem followed in his father's footsteps by winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and achieving many international successes. Another family member, Kansu İldem, also became a Turkish champion.
