The first hearing was held in the case where a chief inspector killed a man he caught with his wife at his home in Elazığ. The chief inspector, who is being tried in custody, stated in the first hearing that the victim was having an affair with his wife, saying, "If I hadn't killed him, he would have killed me," and his account was shocking.
On September 5, 2025, in a site located in the Çaydaçıra neighborhood of Elazığ, Chief Inspector M. K. came home during lunchtime. M. K. encountered Orhan Ö. (44) inside. As a result of the ensuing fight, the chief inspector fired his weapon multiple times. Orhan Ö., who was hit by the bullets, lost his life at the scene, while Chief Inspector M. K. was arrested by the court he was brought to and sent to prison.
CHIEF INSPECTOR WHO KILLED HIS WIFE'S MAN IN FRONT OF HER FACES THE JUDGE
During the first hearing of the case held at the Elazığ 3rd Heavy Criminal Court, the detained defendant M. K. and the lawyers of the parties were present in the courtroom, while F. K. participated via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).
In his statement, the defendant M. K. described the events, stating that his wife left home in the morning to take their children to daycare: "I was at home at that time. My child had caught a cold the night before, so I told my wife, 'Don't take him to school.' She replied, 'Let him get used to daycare, let him get through the adaptation process.' While I was getting ready to go to work, my wife left the house with my child. When my wife left the house, I called her and said, 'Tell the teacher to inform me if the child gets sick.' At that time, I left home to go to work.
"I SAW MY WIFE'S CAR IN THE SITE"
At around 09:00, I called my wife again. Because my child had previously had problems at daycare, I called again to see if he cried when she left. She said, 'I dropped the child off, he cried, but there's nothing to be done. We are both working people.' It takes about 15 minutes for my wife to return home from daycare, so I called again, but my wife did not answer the phone. When she didn't respond, I decided to go home to talk about the child. When I got home and saw my wife's car in the site, I realized she was home. I went upstairs around 09:47, knocked on the door, but no one answered.
"I KNOCKED ON THE DOOR, NO ONE ANSWERED"
Thinking she was in the bathroom, I started waiting in front of the house door. I continued to knock on the door intermittently. I thought she wasn't in the bathroom, but on the balcony, and that she wouldn't hear the doorbell. I went downstairs to check the balconies, but I didn't see my wife there. Then I returned to the apartment door. I knocked again, and this time she opened the door. About 3 minutes had passed since I went downstairs. When she opened the door, I noticed a swelling on her head.
"I SAW BLOOD ON THE T-SHIRT"
I also saw that there was blood on the t-shirt she was wearing. I asked her what happened, and she said, 'I bumped into the door, it's nothing serious.' I went to the kitchen and said, 'I've been knocking for a few minutes, why didn't you open the door? Why didn't you answer the phone?' She replied, 'I fell asleep, I didn't hear the door, and the phone was on silent.' She suggested, 'Let me make a coffee, come to the balcony, let's drink it.' I told her, 'Forget the coffee, I have things to talk to you about.' We talked for about 20 minutes in the kitchen about our child's situation.
"I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE DRESSING ROOM"
After the conversation, M. K. continued his statement, saying that he told his wife to make coffee and that he would go to the bathroom and return: "F. K. was in the kitchen at that time. As I was going to the area where the sink is, I saw drops of blood on the floor. I called out from where I was, 'You've bled a lot when you bumped your head. Are you okay?' She came out of the kitchen to me. I heard a rustling sound from the room we use as a dressing room, and I saw the door move slightly.
"HE ATTACKED ME WITH A KNIFE FROM THE DOOR EDGE"
Wondering why the door was closed, I headed towards the room. Normally, we never keep that door closed. I pushed the door and took a step inside. Normally, the door should have opened all the way, but it didn't. The victim was hiding inside. The victim, who was hiding behind the door, lunged at me with the knife he had. I reflexively grabbed the knife with my hand. I was attacked with the knife without seeing his face. I held his hand, and with my free hand, I grabbed the victim's throat. The victim also grabbed my throat with his free hand. We started to struggle.
"HE WAS SAYING 'I WILL KILL YOU'
M. K. used the following statements: "When I encountered the person, I shouted, 'Who are you, what are you looking for?' He replied, 'Ask your wife who I am.' At that moment, my wife was shouting, 'Stop, don't do it, we are friends. I called to talk.' The victim was saying, 'I will kill you.' I realized the immoral aspect between the woman and the victim while we were struggling. I was trying to escape from the knife, realizing that such an immoral situation was happening in my own house. The immoral aspect came to my mind.
"WE FELL TO THE GROUND STRUGGLING"
At that moment, I thought about whether the woman would make a move, and I shouted to F., 'Don't enter the room.' The reason I shouted was that I was thinking that if the woman entered the room due to their relationship, she might attack me. At that moment, there was fear, panic, and chaos. Then we fell to the ground while struggling. I tried to intervene to take the knife, but I couldn't. I pushed myself back and separated from the person at that moment.
"I FIRED 3-4 SHOTS WHILE HE ATTACKED ME WITH A KNIFE"
After distancing myself from the person, I seized the opportunity to draw my service weapon. While the victim was on the ground and lunging at me with the knife in his hand, I fired 3 or 4 shots downward without aiming. I realized that the bullets hit the victim. In the panic of the tragic event, I wanted to secure my weapon, but I forgot to remove the magazine and just pulled the slide back. At that moment, 4-5 bullets that remained in the gun fell to the ground.
"I CALLED MY SISTER AFTER THE POLICE"
In the panic of the incident, M. K. continued his statement with the following words: "I tried to gather myself both psychologically and physically. Then I turned to the woman and said, 'Look at this incident we experienced. I will call the police; you failed to fulfill your duty in the following process, take good care of the child,' and I called the police. After the police, I called my sister.
"I HAD NO INTENTION TO KILL ANYONE"
I had called the head of the public order unit and explained the incident. I said, 'I had to use my weapon.' Later, the police teams arrived, and we went to the police station for a statement. This is how the incident occurred. I had no intention to kill anyone in this incident. I used my service weapon as a last resort to escape from the threat directed at my life and to defend myself. I am in the position of a defendant in this incident, but I had no knowledge of the matter. I had no intention to kill anyone.
"IF I DIDN'T KILL HIM, HE WOULD HAVE KILLED ME"
I did not want the incident to end this way. At this point, I have been separated from my job and my child. No one wants to find themselves in such a situation. I have no connection to the swelling on my wife's head. I have never had any doubt that my wife was cheating on me. On the day of the incident, as well as in previous times, we had family unrest, but I never had any suspicion that she was cheating. The first time I saw the victim was at the scene of the incident. We had never met before in any way. The victim had already messaged my wife, asking, 'Will your husband come home? If he does, we will meet.' There was approximately 70 centimeters of distance between the victim and me during the incident.
If I hadn't killed him, he would have killed me. "
"WE MET THE VICTIM THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA"
F. K., who stated that she was the ex-wife of M. K., said: "I met a person named Serdar through social media. I knew him by the name Serdar. We met in May 2025, and we chatted for about a month. Then in July, we met face to face once in the park and once in the car. I didn't want to meet this person. The day before the incident in August, the victim sent me messages, but I didn't see the messages. He said he wanted to come to Elazığ to talk.
'I will confront your husband, and if necessary, I will talk to him,' he said. During this process, the victim was secretly angry with the defendant. I saw the messages between 07:00 and 09:00 on the day of the incident. I thought it would be dangerous to meet outside, so I said, 'Let's meet at home.' The victim called me from social media, and I told him I would go home. Shortly after I got home, Orhan, whom I knew as Serdar, came to the house.
We sat in the kitchen area. While the conversation was ongoing, M. called me, and at that moment, I was explaining that our relationship needed to end. We talked for about 20 minutes. Then the door started to ring. When I looked through the peephole, I saw M. I went inside and told Serdar, 'M. has arrived.' Serdar got angry and said, 'You set me up. Where did this M. come from? I will kill both of you.'
"THE VICTIM TOOK A KNIFE FROM THE KITCHEN"
Because the sounds would go outside, I told the victim to be quiet and not to make nonsense in a low voice. Serdar took a knife from the dish rack in the kitchen. I told him to put it down, but he didn't and headed towards the dressing room in the back of the house. When he reached the bathroom door, I told him to calm down and to put the knife down. He kicked and headbutted me, saying, 'Aren't you aware of the situation I'm in?' The door kept ringing. 'When M. comes in, I will take him to the balcony. You hide in the dressing room, and at that moment, you can leave through the door,' he said.
F. K. continued her statement, saying that she went into the bathroom to wash her hands and face and clean the blood stains: "I took Serdar's shoes from the wardrobe and told him to wear them. I said he could leave when M. was on the balcony. I opened the door. At that moment, M. couldn't enter because I had locked the door. M. asked, 'What happened to your forehead?' I brushed it off by saying, 'It's nothing important, I bumped into the door.' Then I took him to the kitchen to have coffee.
M. said, 'Let's talk first, then we can have coffee,' and asked why I didn't hear the door and the phone. I brushed it off by saying, 'I was sleeping.' After talking for about 20 minutes, M. said, 'Make coffee,' and left the kitchen. While in front of the coffee machine, he headed towards the corridor. When he saw the blood stains in front of the bathroom, he asked, 'Are you okay?' I then left the kitchen and headed towards M. Since the dressing room door was closed, he tried to open it.
"SERDAR WAS TRYING TO STAB"
At that moment, he said, 'Why is the door closed?' When he pushed the door open, Serdar entered with a knife and started to attack M. through the gap in the door. A struggle began between them. Serdar was trying to stab M. in the shoulder and neck area. Even though I told my wife, 'We are friends' regarding Serdar, he was still attacking.
"I HEARD GUNSHOTS 2 OR 3 TIMES"
As Serdar didn't let go of the knife, the struggle continued. M. was asking Serdar, 'Who are you, what are you doing here?' Serdar continued to attack, swinging the knife and saying, 'Ask your wife about these things.' Serdar and M. fell to the ground in a face-down position. Serdar continued to attack with the knife. At one point, when M. pulled back, he drew a gun and started firing continuously at the ground. I heard gunshots 2 or 3 times.
I didn't see if the bullets hit Serdar. M. told me, 'Take good care of our son. You didn't act like a wife; be a mother to him,' expressing her frustration. Then she immediately called someone on the phone, and the police arrived. This is how the incident happened. I couldn't tell if the victim was dead or alive when he fell to the ground. We didn't touch the victim. We waited for the police to arrive," she said.
