In Diyarbakır, a 4-year-old child bitten by a cat tested positive for rabies. The young child was intubated. Following the little girl's positive rabies test, quarantine measures were initiated in the area, and animals in the neighborhood were vaccinated, while stray cats and dogs began to be collected.
In the Sur district, a 4-year-old girl named N.K. was bitten on the lip by a stray cat while outside. When the child cried, her mother asked what happened, and she said the cat bit her. The family then took her to the hospital. After the check-ups, the child was sent home.
MONTHS LATER, SHE FELL ILL AGAIN AND WAS INTUBATED
Months later, the child fell ill again. When the family explained the situation, the child was taken to the hospital once more and placed under treatment. As her condition worsened, she was intubated.
RABIES TEST POSITIVE
The Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and related institutions launched investigations into the matter. Rabies test results from the samples taken came back positive. Vaccinations were administered in the neighborhood, and municipal teams began efforts to collect stray cats and dogs.
