GOALPOST FELL ON HIM
The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, at Şeyh Şamil Secondary School in the İslambey neighborhood of Arnavutköy. According to allegations, a goalpost fell on 4-year-old Ediz Eren Erman while he was playing ball with his friends in the schoolyard. After the incident, the seriously injured 4-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment, where fractures were found in his foot and leg. While the family filed a complaint against the school regarding the incident, they stated that necessary precautions should be taken.

The moment of the incident was captured on security camera. In the footage, while the 4-year-old child is playing in the schoolyard, another friend hangs onto the goalpost, a ball hits the child hanging onto the goalpost, causing him to fall, and the goalpost topples onto the 4-year-old child.

Speaking about the incident, the father of the 4-year-old, Gürkan Erman, said, "Last Thursday, because the door was open, children entered the school behind me to play. When they went in, there was a large goalpost in the schoolyard. A child from our neighborhood wanted to swing on that goalpost. While swinging, a ball came at the child, and because the ball hit him, he lost his balance and fell. Because he fell forward, the iron goalpost fell on the leg of my 4-year-old son, Ediz Eren, since it was not secured. With the fall of the goalpost, a traumatic fracture occurred in the child's foot. This was confirmed with hospital records.
"WE FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE SCHOOL"
Stating that the child's treatment is ongoing, father Erman said, "Currently, the child's foot is in a cast; he will lie like this for 1.5-2 months. As for the details of the incident, the teacher inside the school saw it from the upper floor and called out to the children, 'What's happening there?' The children said, 'Teacher, iron fell on the child's foot.' The teacher then told them to quickly leave the area and evacuated the children. There is negligence in this matter. We have also filed a complaint against the school regarding this issue. The process is ongoing, and legal records of the incident have been taken. The child's foot is currently in a cast; we hope it heals. There is a major fracture in his leg. Hopefully, such things won't happen to others; may such events not occur. We request that necessary precautions be taken. We are victims; unfortunately, we are sad. Now, as a precaution, they have removed the goalposts from the schoolyard. If goalposts are to be installed at the school, they must be secured. The schoolyard is currently open; children want to go in and play ball, and that's how this happened to us," he said.
