CHP spokesperson Zeynel Emre, in a statement regarding Özgür Özel's footage at the grave of Kamer Genç, said that the recording is a private video from 2020 and that Özel was not the party leader at that time. Emre emphasized that they do not find it appropriate to base today's politics on footage from years ago, highlighting that the CHP's agenda focuses on the issues of minimum wage earners, retirees, and children.
While the echoes of the images of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel drinking rakı at the grave of Kamer Genç continue, a striking statement regarding the issue came from CHP Party Spokesperson Zeynel Emre.
In the press conference he organized, Emre emphasized that the mentioned image is not current, stating, "First of all, let's underline that this image is not current today. This image is from the year 2020. It is a private image. There is no official funeral ceremony or anything like that. Our Chairman was not the chairman at that time," he expressed.
Highlights from Zeynel Emre's statements;
"The group vice chairman has worked closely with the late Kamer Genç in the past, has acted as an older brother, has formed friendships. This is a known situation, a known name, and he goes to commemorate him every year. Therefore, he is not the organizer or arranger of that day's commemoration ceremony or the subsequent situation there...
"THE TRUTH OF TODAY THROUGH THE IMAGE..."
We do not find it very healthy to discuss the truth of today, the order of today, and what is happening today based on an image from many years ago. Because sometimes we experience this in Turkey. We say there are serious problems in the country. You see that a political narrative is being attempted to be built on a statement or a speech from years ago.
"WE DO NOT FIND IT CURRENT AND ACCURATE"
Therefore, our priority is the problems that Turkey is experiencing today and how we can solve these problems. Urgencies. I mentioned it earlier. The problems of minimum wage earners, retirees, and children. We emphasize that we do not find it current and accurate to discuss this as Turkey's central problem in this way.
"UNFORTUNATELY, THE COUNTRY IS BADLY MANAGED"
Has Tayyip Bey mentioned this? He may mention it. This exists in politics. But let me underline this once again. There is a symptom of the current inability to manage in Tayyip Bey as well. Unfortunately, the country is badly managed. In such situations, there is a saying: 'A bankrupt debtor opens old books.' There is a search for something from the past. From there, a perception management, a polarization... Perhaps there is a thought of how to polarize a large segment through this. But our reality progresses in parallel with the reality of society.
