The new traffic regulation, which imposes restrictions on license plates and in-vehicle audio and visual systems, has sparked reactions, while President Erdoğan announced after the Cabinet meeting that he instructed the Ministry of Interior to implement the regulation in a way that would not disadvantage citizens.

After the Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan evaluated the changes in the traffic law and provided reassuring messages to citizens regarding discussions about sound, image, and license plate systems in vehicles.

In his statement, Erdoğan said, "We evaluated many issues from traffic safety to energy, from regional developments to foreign policy in depth. We have given the necessary instructions to our Ministry of Interior to carry out the implementation process regarding license plates, image, and sound systems, which have caused complaints from vehicle owners in recent days, very carefully without causing new grievances for our citizens."

APP LICENSE PLATE QUEUES FORMED

Following the new traffic law regulation that came into effect on February 26, 2026, heavy fines were imposed for fake license plates in vehicles. Many drivers using APP plates queued to change their non-standard plates.

Regarding the fines imposed on drivers, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi had instructed that APP plate inspections would only be conducted for guidance purposes until April 1. No fines will be imposed on drivers for APP plates until April 1.

APP LICENSE PLATE FINE 140 THOUSAND LIRA

A new regulation was made in the traffic law for European Press Plates (APP), which are used for their better visual appearance in vehicles. Fines of up to 140 thousand lira are imposed on these plates, which are printed with thick fonts and are fake through illegal methods, and vehicles are banned from traffic. Drivers are fined 140 thousand lira for the first offense and 280 thousand lira for the second offense. Additionally, drivers are also charged with forgery in official documents.

STATEMENT REGARDING IMAGE AND SOUND SYSTEMS

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi warned vehicle owners that screens and sound systems installed later must be removed, and vehicles must be made compliant with the law. Çiftçi stated that there is no problem if the screens in the vehicles are original, and expressed that these systems can be used for purposes such as music and navigation. According to the new regulation, drivers who listen to music in a way that disturbs the environment will be subjected to an administrative fine of 3 thousand lira.
