The Konya Governorship announced that the claims of an armed attack on the CHP convoy do not reflect the truth. It was stated that the incident occurred as a result of shots fired into the air with a blank-firing gun, and the individual involved has been detained. Meanwhile, security camera footage of the incident has also emerged.

It was claimed that CHP officials were subjected to an armed attack in the Çumra district of Konya. According to the allegation, CHP Deputy Provincial Chairman Mustafa Durmaz and Central District Deputy Chairman Muhammet Keskince, who were working for the party's rally to be held in the city on May 4, were attacked by an individual who emerged from a shop. The individual disappeared after the incident.

GOVERNOR'S OFFICE DENIES CHP'S "ARMED ATTACK" CLAIM

The Konya Governor's Office denied the CHP's claim. In a statement from the governor's office, it was noted that an individual fired a blank gun into the air, and that the person was taken into custody.

"THEY FIRED INTO THE AIR WITH A BLANK GUN"

The statement included the following: "On May 1, 2025, around 16:00, while the Republican People's Party's audio broadcast vehicle was promoting the Konya rally to be held on May 3, it was learned that individuals named M. K. and B. D. fired into the air with a weapon referred to as a blank gun in front of a workplace located in the Çaybaşı neighborhood; as a result of the work carried out by our teams, the suspect individuals were captured shortly thereafter along with the blank gun."

"I FIRED INTO THE AIR OUT OF JOY"

In his statement at the police station, suspect M. K. stated that he sympathized with the CHP and, due to the vehicle having a license plate of 70, he felt a connection as a fellow citizen. He claimed that he fired into the air out of joy upon seeing the promotional vehicle, and two empty blank cartridges were found at the scene and were kept for examination.

Searches were conducted at the suspects' workplaces, homes, and vehicles, and no crime or criminal evidence was found. The individuals were taken into custody on May 2, 2025, to be presented at the Çumra Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. This is respectfully announced to the public."
