Following the establishment of Türkiye Sigorta in 2020 through the merger of publicly owned insurance companies under the Türkiye Wealth Fund, it has been suggested that a similar merger model is being considered for public participation banks. It was stated that Ziraat Katılım, Vakıf Katılım, and the newly established Halk Katılım are planned to be brought together under a single umbrella.

Founded in 2020 by the merger of Ziraat Sigorta, Halk Sigorta, and Güneş Sigorta, Türkiye Sigorta continues to rapidly increase its customer portfolio and profitability rates even after five years.

A SIMILAR MODEL ON THE AGENDA FOR PUBLIC BANKS

Following this merger implemented under the Turkey Wealth Fund (TVF), the economic management has also brought a similar model for public participation banks operating in Turkey onto its agenda.

CLAIM THAT MOVES THE MARKETS

According to a report by Dilek Güngör, a columnist for Sabah newspaper, it is anticipated that Ziraat Katılım and Vakıf Katılım Banks, which are currently operational, along with Halk Katılım Bankası, which has received operational permission from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) and is expected to start operations in February, will be included in this merger plan.

SERVING AS A SINGLE BANK

In the planned model, it is aimed for the three public participation banks to be gathered under the umbrella of the Turkey Wealth Fund, similar to Türkiye Sigorta, and to operate as a single bank with a new name to be determined. Participation banks, known to the public as "interest-free banks," have increased their share in the banking sector to approximately 10% of the total volume with the rising demand in recent years. It is stated that the economic management aims to consolidate the operations of the three banks under a single roof, taking this interest in the sector into account, and to further grow the scale in this way.
