The US-based New York Times newspaper claimed that Iran's religious leader Mojtaba Khamenei has undergone three surgeries on his leg and may need a prosthetic leg and cosmetic intervention in the future.

The US press continues to pursue claims that Iran's new religious leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was injured in the attacks launched by Israel and the US on February 28. The New York Times, citing Iranian sources, reported that Mojtaba Khamenei was seriously wounded in the attack in which his father, Iran's former religious leader Ali Khamenei, lost his life, yet he continues to play an active role in the country's decision-making processes.

"KHAMENEI MAY NEED A PROSTHETIC LEG"

The report claimed that Khamenei underwent three surgeries on one leg and may require a prosthetic leg in the future. It also stated that he had surgery on his hand, which is gradually regaining its function.

Claims also included that Khamenei suffered severe burns to his face and lips during the attack, causing difficulty in speaking, and that he may undergo cosmetic surgery in the future. Additionally, it was alleged that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, a cardiac surgeon, was closely involved in Khamenei's treatment.

"OFFICIALS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MEET WITH THE RELIGIOUS LEADER"

While it was claimed that Khamenei avoids public appearances to avoid creating an impression of being "weak or vulnerable," it was reported that his written statements are shared on online platforms and read on television. It was also noted that Iranian officials are not allowed to meet directly with the religious leader due to concerns that Israel could identify his location and carry out an assassination.

HIS FACE WAS REPORTEDLY DAMAGED BEYOND RECOGNITION

Previous reports in the US press had also claimed that Khamenei's face was damaged beyond recognition and he suffered severe leg injuries in the attack in Tehran. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had repeatedly emphasized these claims in his press conferences.
