The co-chair of the Bitlis Tatvan Municipality from the Democratic Regions Party (DEVA), Mümin Erol, was detained in his office at the municipal building on the charge of "insulting the president." After Erol won the March 31 elections and received his certificate of election, he removed a photo of President Erdoğan from his office, which led the Tatvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to initiate an investigation ex officio.
Mümin Erol, co-chair of the Tatvan Municipality from the DEM Party, was detained on charges of "insulting the president" in Bitlis. Mümin Erol, who was detained in the municipality building, is currently undergoing interrogation at the police station.
HE REMOVED THE PHOTO ON THE DAY HE TOOK OFFICE
On the other hand, Mümin Erol, co-chair of the Tatvan Municipality, which switched from the AK Party to the DEM Party in the March 31 local elections, removed the photo of President Erdoğan from his office on the day he took office after receiving his certificate of election.
THE CHIEF PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE INITIATED AN INVESTIGATION
Images related to the incident were later published on some news sites and social media accounts. Following this, the Tatvan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against Erol for the crime of 'insulting the president'.
WHO IS MÜMİN EROL?
Mümin Erol was born in 1981 in the Tatvan district of Bitlis. He completed his primary and secondary education in Tatvan and graduated from Bitlis Anadolu Teacher High School. Erol graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Law in 2004 and continues his profession as a lawyer. He was nominated and elected as the Mayor of Tatvan from the DEM Party in the local elections on March 31.
