During a water repair operation in Kumluca, Antalya, a collapse occurred in the excavation pit. Worker Gürkan Turgut was buried up to his waist in soil. Rescued after 1.5 hours of efforts by the teams, the worker was taken to the hospital, and an investigation has been initiated.
A worker was trapped when a collapse occurred in a pit area during a water repair operation in the Kumluca district of Antalya. While crews were working to drain the water filling the pit, the worker, buried up to his waist, was rescued after an hour and a half of effort.
COLLAPSE SWALLOWED THE WORKER IN AN INSTANT
The incident occurred on Adnan Menderes Boulevard, Karşıyaka Neighborhood. A collapse happened while crews from the Antalya Water and Sewerage Administration General Directorate (ASAT) were performing water repair work.
In the incident, ASAT personnel Gürkan Turgut was trapped under the collapse, and his colleagues reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the notification, fire brigade, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
Fire brigade and ASAT teams were dispatched to the area for Gürkan Turgut, who was trapped under the collapse. As water from a burst drinking water line filled the opened pit, fire brigade and ASAT teams carried out evacuation efforts, literally racing against time.
LOWER HALF OF BODY BURIED UNDERGROUND
Gürkan Turgut, whose lower half was trapped under the collapse, was pulled out from under the soil after approximately an hour and a half of work and taken to Kumluca State Hospital.
An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident.
