A person who allegedly had a substance addiction entered a mosque in Antalya during prayer time, threatened the mosque's muezzin and congregation with a knife, and prevented them from entering the mosque. Seeing that the mosque was being damaged, the congregation united and expelled the person with a substance addiction, then chased him away by throwing stones. The person escaped from the angry congregation by seeking refuge with the police. HE TRIED TO FORCE THE MU'AZZIN OUTThe interesting chain of events occurred last night at the Demirgül Mosque in the Düdenbaşı neighborhood of the Kepez district. A 35-year-old person, whose name is unknown and who is claimed to be a substance addict, entered the Demirgül Mosque. The person, who had a knife in hand, wanted to force the muezzin outside. When the muezzin did not want to go outside, the person broke the glass at the mosque door. Due to the glass shards, the muezzin was injured in the foot. The muezzin, who came out of the mosque, and the congregation, who could not enter the mosque, called the police. While the congregation waited for the police to arrive, the person with a bag on his shoulder tried to leave the mosque. When the congregation tried to catch him, the person pulled out a knife from his pocket and started to flee. 2 KILOMETER CHASEFor about 2 kilometers, the congregation and the substance addict threw stones and bricks at each other by the roadside, while some members of the congregation continued the chase with sticks, a cart, and a handle. At one point, the person entered an apartment garden and tried to kick the outer door of the apartment to get inside. Seeing this, the congregation warned the apartment residents not to open the door. HE THREW HIMSELF INTO THE POLICE CARAs the chase continued through the back streets, the substance addict, realizing he could not escape any longer from the stubborn congregation, stopped a police car coming from the opposite direction with its sirens on and threw himself into the back seat. While the congregation surrounding the vehicle explained to the police what had happened, the person threw the knife he had outside the vehicle. A citizen kicked the person who had been chasing them for minutes, and the police put the man back into the police vehicle to prevent a possible lynching attempt. While the police began an investigation at the mosque, the person was taken to the police station for questioning.
