Kastamonu Municipality organized an event on August 24 to commemorate the anniversary of Atatürk's arrival in Kastamonu. During the event, Melek Mosso, who performed on stage, faced harsh criticism from AK Party Group Deputy Chairman Ahmet Namlı. Namlı criticized Mosso by saying, "If you don't confront the immoral ones, some of them will try to give you a lesson in morality."

The Kastamonu Municipality organized an event in the Municipality Square on August 24 to commemorate the anniversary of Atatürk's arrival in Kastamonu. Artist Melek Mosso performed at the event. Mosso's performance was brought up during the Kastamonu Municipality's September Ordinary Council Meeting held last night.

"YOU ARE TRYING TO TEACH US MORALITY"

Ahmet Namlı, the AK Party Group Vice Chairman of the Kastamonu Municipal Council, targeted singer Mosso. Namlı said, "If you don't confront the immoral ones, they will try to teach you morality. Now, we are in the same situation. You are trying to teach us morality. Gentlemen, this is not that simple. Now you say we can't find Şerife Bacı. Of course, you can't find her. Am I the one who planted the pine tree behind a monument that has nothing to do with our culture in front of Şerife Bacı? And here in Kastamonu, no one raised their voice, kudos to this Kastamonu. They don't say anything else. They tell our girls and young people to open up, to stop for freedom. I don't know, I think that woman came down to the president's office without dressing. I didn't look, but I checked on YouTube. Am I the one who brought a woman here? You are trying to teach us morality.

"DOES IT SUIT KASTAMONU?"

Gentlemen, this is so shameful. They are trying to bestow freedom on girls as if they are gifts to their families. Who is that woman? Does she suit Kastamonu? Of course, you can't find Şerife Bacı. And then how do you attribute this to Kastamonu? Can such a thing happen? That evening, there was such a crowd. And most of them were our girls wearing headscarves in the front. When I saw that that evening, my stomach churned, I said, what have we become? I said, where have we come? But you cannot attribute this to the AK Party. There is no such world."

"ARE THESE YOUR MEDIEVAL VIEWS?"

Kastamonu Deputy Mayor Eda Büyükdemirci, who reacted to Namlı's statements, said, "First of all, I want to ask Mr. Ahmet. Are these his medieval views or does he continue to think the same things in this age? Because who is he to make a moral defense based on a woman's clothing? Judging a woman based on her clothing from the public podium is neither anyone's right nor authority. Therefore, I condemn it. These statements have been repeated many times by politicians in front of cameras in society. Because of these reactionary thoughts, women are judged in society today because of their clothing. Sexual assaults against them are legitimized because of their clothing and attire.

"DRESSING SHOULD NOT BE INTERFERED WITH"

Just a week ago, a woman was killed by a man because she rejected his sexual advances, and the man was given a reduced sentence. He said his honor was tarnished. Why? Because the request for sexual intercourse was rejected. The gentleman killed the woman. Now this mentality, these views give birth to each other. From the public podium, saying I do not find such clothing appropriate. You can defend this in your daily life. You can dress conservatively. You can dress openly. That's a separate issue. No one can comment on how a woman should dress, nor can anyone comment on a woman's headscarf, mini skirt, or shorts. Rights belong only to me. Rights belong only to my area, my conservative world. No, sir. On the day of that concert, there were 15,000 to 17,000 people from Kastamonu. 15,000 to 17,000 people came to listen to an artist. It is legitimate in the eyes of society. Society has no such moral concerns. I condemn his statement. I condemn it on behalf of all women. These statements justify violations of women's rights and femicides in this country. I ask him to review his statements once again."

BALTACI THANKS MOSSO

Kastamonu Mayor Hasan Baltacı said, "I believe that discussing this issue not through morality and immorality but through social decay and corruption will lead us to a more accurate target. I believe that everyone should correctly understand the reaction given by a female municipal council member and the female deputy mayor regarding women. Just now, Mr. Ahmet said something. He said he was astonished to see the headscarf-wearing girls who went to that concert. Now you have set such a dividing point in your mind. As if headscarf-wearing girls cannot go to a concert, as if headscarf-wearing women cannot go. For us, a woman is a woman. Her headscarf, skirt, clothing, and attire are determined only by herself. Whether they are headscarf-wearing or not, women, men, young people, all Kastamonu residents are our people. We are very happy that they came. I also want to share the feelings that Ms. Melek Mosso evoked in the people of Kastamonu that night. I thank her once again for showing interest in Kastamonu as an artist who supports the Republic."
