After the 7.76 lira midnight increase in diesel, the liter price surpassed 90 lira in many provinces, setting a record. Bitlis saw the highest price at 91.65 lira, while industry sources stated that the Special Consumption Tax will increase every month and that these increases will be reflected in prices at a high rate.
The liter price of diesel reached a historic level after a 7.76 lira hike implemented at midnight. In Turkey, the liter price of diesel exceeded 90 lira in many provinces. Bitlis ranked first with 91.65 lira. Pointing out that the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on diesel, currently 3 lira, will increase by 3 lira each month, industry sources said, "Therefore, the SCT will be 6 lira in October, 9 lira in November, and 12 lira in December. It will rise to 13.9006 lira on January 1, 2027. These increases will be reflected in diesel liter prices as high-rate hikes along with 20% VAT."
ALL-TIME RECORD BROKEN
The resumption of attacks between the USA and Iran significantly increased both Brent crude oil and the ton prices of diesel and gasoline in global markets. The rise in prices triggered high-rate hikes on both gasoline and diesel. Effective from Friday, diesel was increased by 7.76 lira and gasoline by 2.47 lira. Following the hike, the liter price of diesel broke an all-time record in many provinces across Turkey and exceeded 90 lira.
Bitlis ranked first with 91.65 lira (may vary slightly depending on the distribution company). It reached 91.60 lira in Elazig, 91.57 lira in Bingol, 91.48 lira in Batman, and 91.45 lira in Agri.
LATEST SITUATION IN FOUR METROPOLITAN CITIES
The liter price of diesel either approached 90 lira or exceeded it in all four major cities. It rose to 89.91 lira in Ankara, 88.81 lira in Istanbul, 90.20 lira in Izmir, and 91.26 lira in Antalya.
In their statement, industry sources noted that the variation in diesel and gasoline prices at the provincial level is related to the distance to the refinery, and that logistics costs affect the price.
Stating that prices could increase further if global tensions continue, the sources said, "In this case, higher prices will be seen in both diesel and gasoline."
SCT INCREASE AND NEW HIKES
The sources reminded that the SCT on diesel is currently 3 lira, and this amount will increase by 3 lira each month in the following months, saying, "Therefore, the SCT will be 3 lira in September, 6 lira in October, 9 lira in November, and 12 lira in December. It will rise to 13.9006 lira on January 1, 2027. These increases will be reflected in diesel liter prices as high-rate hikes along with 20% VAT."
