A tornado that occurred in the Manavgat district of Antalya blew off the roofs of houses and caused significant damage to vehicles, greenhouses, and trees. Injured individuals and damage assessment efforts are ongoing.
The damage caused by the tornado in the Manavgat district of Antalya became apparent as dawn broke. While efforts were made to heal the wounds caused by the tornado, which uprooted trees, damaged parked vehicles, greenhouses, and barns, and blew off the roofs of houses, damage assessment also began in the area.
1 INJURED
A tornado occurred yesterday around 19:30 in the neighborhoods of Karacalar and Sülek in Manavgat. According to initial assessments, due to the tornado, which lasted for a few minutes, the roofs of 5 houses and many greenhouses were blown off, barns were damaged, and numerous trees were uprooted and toppled. A parked car with the license plate 07 YL 055 was overturned by the tornado, which swept it about 4 meters, and a motorcycle and a pickup truck were also damaged by the tornado. Sude Kiraz (20), who was walking during the tornado, was injured after being hit by the flying car. Health, gendarmerie, AFAD, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the area upon notification. Injured Sude Kiraz was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
'NO ELECTRICITY'
The damage caused by the tornado in the district became apparent as dawn broke. It was observed that the tornado uprooted and toppled many trees in the area, ripping off the iron roof of one house and sweeping it several meters away. Work has been initiated to assess the damage caused by the tornado, which tore the plastic covers of many greenhouses and shattered their frames. Work was also carried out to repair the damaged electricity lines due to the tornado. Ercan Mutlu, the headman of Sülek Neighborhood, stated, "The tornado that occurred last night has caused excessive damage to our neighborhood. Our roofs have been blown off, our trees have been uprooted. Our vehicles have been damaged. One of our children has been hospitalized. We are asking for help from our government. There is no electricity, the friends are taking care of it," he said.
'TILES FLEW IN THROUGH THE WINDOWS'
Dudu Arı from Sülek Neighborhood also said, "We experienced a disaster. I was inside with my elderly mother. The tiles from the neighbors' houses flew in through the windows. We fell to the ground. I thought there was an explosion. All my trees are on the ground. It blew off my roof and destroyed my solar energy system. We are in very big trouble. We saw it, may our enemies not see it. We are waiting for help," she said.
