In the Manavgat district of Antalya, in the investigation reopened regarding the death of Umut Can Arslan (19), whose body was found four years ago, separated from his head and missing 12 teeth, 10 suspects, including former Varsak Mayor H.A., were detained. Four of the suspects were arrested for the crime of 'Intentional Murder.'
On March 20, 2021, a male body was found in the forest in the Sağırin neighborhood of Manavgat. Upon notification, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. During the examination, it was determined that the head of the body was separated from the torso and that 12 teeth had been removed. The body, which had no identification, was sent to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy after the examination. In the investigations conducted by the gendarmerie at the scene, a mobile phone and a firearm, as well as some personal belongings, were found next to the body. In the investigation initiated by the Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office at that time, it was determined that the deceased was Umut Can Arslan, but no results were obtained regarding the incident.
FILE REOPENED AFTER AĞGEDİK MURDER
The Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated a study to re-examine suspicious deaths that occurred in the district after it was revealed last year that Ayhan Ağgedik, who disappeared 18 years ago and whose buried body was found in 2013, was murdered, and after the suspects were captured and arrested. Following the evaluation, the case of Umut Can Arslan was reopened. As a result of the work initiated in November last year by the Manavgat Police Department's Public Order Bureau teams upon the instruction of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that Halil Kara, Cüneyt Ceyhan, Hüseyin Kaya, Zeynep Kara, along with H.E.K., İ.B.K., R.A.Ş., F.Z.A.K., D.A., and former Varsak Mayor H.A. were suspects in the death of Umut Can Arslan.
KILLED BY TORTURE
According to allegations, it was determined that the suspects purchased a field in the Sağırin neighborhood during the coronavirus pandemic and frequently visited the neighborhood under the pretext of doing agricultural work. It was found that the suspects, along with Umut Can Arslan, were searching for treasure in the forest. In the investigation, it was understood that after one of the women in the group lost jewelry worth approximately 400,000 lira, the suspects held Umut Can Arslan responsible, tortured him to death, hid his body for a while, and then left it at the place where he was found along with his mobile phone and personal belongings.
Upon the instruction of the prosecutor's office, 10 suspects were detained by the police during simultaneous raids on their homes on March 7. During the search of the suspects' homes, 2 unlicensed firearms, 45 bullets belonging to the firearms, and 2 portable memory sticks were found. It was reported that 2 of the suspects confessed to the incident during their interrogation at the Manavgat Police Department's Public Order Bureau. The suspects, who were brought to the courthouse yesterday under heavy security measures, D.A., F.Z.A.K., and R.A.Ş. were released by the prosecutor's office after their statements. The other suspects were referred to the duty magistrate. Halil Kara, Cüneyt Ceyhan, Hüseyin Kaya, and Zeynep Kara were arrested for 'Intentional Murder,' while İ.B.K., H.E.K., and H.A. were released under judicial control.
