Work continues on the Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High-Speed Train project. A demolition decision has been made for the Kasım Gülek Bridge, which has served urban transportation since 1962 and gained worldwide recognition for its appearance in the '007 James Bond-Skyfall' film. The bridge, which will be demolished in the first months of 2026, is planned to be replaced by a modern underpass. The demolition and construction of the new underpass are expected to be completed within 8 months.
"I'M SAD BECAUSE THE BRIDGE WILL BE DEMOLISHED" Hatice Çetin (61), who gained fame with a photo leaked to the internet during the filming of the James Bond-Skyfall movie on the bridge, said she is saddened by the demolition of the bridge. Çetin, a mother of four, stated that her husband was engaged in livestock farming and was unemployed at the time the film was shot, saying, "I first acted in 'Hanımın Çiftliği'. After that, I acted in 'Dila Hanım'. I went to 'Görüş Günü' for a few days. There was a series called 'Kötü Yol' that I went to. I went to a few series. I also acted in a world-famous film, 007 James Bond. At first, I was a bit excited and scared when the offer came because it was a foreign series, and it was the first time they called me. Then, when a couple of friends came along, I overcame my excitement. I went for 27 days, and it went well. I have a photo from an action scene at the Kasım Gülek Bridge, which became very famous. That bridge is being demolished now. I hope something better is built in its place. I didn't want it to be demolished, but there's nothing I can do. I'm sad that it will be demolished," she said.
"I BUILT MY HOUSE WITH THE MONEY I GOT FROM THE FILM" Çetin continued her words: "I went and came back. They even called me from television. When that picture came out, my children didn't want to send it. I became quite famous because of that photo. I didn't have a phone; my children had one. They showed it to me. My desire to act in films started with a group of friends. They said, 'We're going to a series, let's invite you too.' At that time, my husband wasn't working, and I was taking care of the children. One was going to university, one to high school, and one to elementary school. My son was in the military. I said I would go too. My husband said, 'Okay, go.' That's how it happened. At that time, I received 760 lira. I built my house with that money. I bought the construction materials for the second floor and the terrace."
"WE SHOT THAT SCENE AT LEAST TEN TIMES" Çetin described the scenes she acted in the film, saying, "When that picture was taken, I really saw it. The man was going to jump, and I waited. They said, 'Ready.' You see it for the first time; the man is going to jump from the Kasım Gülek Bridge onto the train, a woman is going to come and point a gun, and I will hide behind the car in fear. I got excited. I also look serious; I seem angry. I had no idea they had taken my picture. We shot that scene at least ten times," she said.
