DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit announced that they will vote "no" on the motions regarding Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, which are planned to be discussed in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Speaking at a press conference held in the Assembly, Koçyiğit argued that the mentioned motions "contradict the ongoing democratic resolution process in Turkey."
HE POINTED OUT THE PHRASE IN THE MOTIONS In her statement, Koçyiğit said, "There is an ongoing process in Turkey; a critical threshold has been crossed in terms of the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue. However, there is a mismatch between the motions brought to the Assembly and this process. The phrase 'the needs of the Syrian regime' in the motions is striking. We want to ask this: Are the needs of the Syrian regime the same as the needs of the Syrian people? What is essential for us is the demands of the peoples. It is the construction of a democratic and united Syria. However, we see that Turkey is far from this perspective," she stated.
DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit EMPHASIS ON "REGIONAL PEACE" Koçyiğit stated that the motions will not contribute to regional peace, saying, "For this reason, we will vote 'no' on these motions as the DEM Party."
"THE COMMISSION WILL NOT MEET THIS WEEK" Koçyiğit also provided information regarding the activities of the TBMM National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission established within the scope of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process. Reminding that last week's session was expected to be the final session, Koçyiğit said, "It was planned for the President of MIT, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Justice to come and make presentations this week. However, as we understand, the ministers' schedules do not align, so the commission will not meet this week. We expect them to be heard in the session to be held next week. After that, the report will be written, and the commission's first work will be completed with its submission to the General Assembly."
CONTENT OF THE MOTIONS The General Assembly, which will start its weekly work on Tuesday, October 21, will discuss the presidential motions regarding the extension of the Turkish soldiers' mission in Lebanon for 2 years and the extension of the troop deployment motions for Iraq and Syria for another 3 years.
