WHAT IS THE DEPOSIT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (DMS)?The Deposit Management System is a system based on the return of products released into the market with a certain deposit fee after consumption and the refund of the deposit fee. WHAT DOES THE DEPOSIT PROVIDE?It contributes to the separate collection of packaging at the source, the preservation and enhancement of recycling value, the conservation of natural resources by using secondary raw materials instead of primary raw materials, the reduction of energy consumption through the use of secondary raw materials, the reduction of carbon emissions, and achieving the 2053 Net Zero Emissions target, as well as supporting zero waste and the circular economy. WHAT IS THE DEPOSITED PACKAGING (DP) APPLICATION?It is a mobile application that consumers will use in the return processes. At machines registered by the ministry and manual return points, consumers will use the DP mobile application to carry out their deposit returns. HOW DOES THE DP APPLICATION WORK?The application can be downloaded for free from the Android and iOS store. With the application that works by scanning a QR code, the deposit fee for the packaging left at the deposit return machines accumulates in the consumer's e-wallet. This balance can be used at all POS devices with QR code payment features in partner restaurants and markets. IS THE DP BANKING SYSTEM INTEGRATED?All financial flows are conducted under the DP mobile application through the infrastructure of Türkiye Emlak Katılım Bankası with e-wallet integration. The accumulated balance can also be transferred to bank accounts. WHEN WILL THE APPLICATION START NATIONWIDE?The application initiated in Sakarya will be implemented in every province and district across the country by the end of 2025. WHICH INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORT DP?The deposit management system, in which the Turkey Environment Agency (TÜÇA) under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change serves as the system administrator, will be carried out in cooperation with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK). HOW MUCH PACKAGING WILL BE RECOVERED ANNUALLY?It is projected that approximately 25 billion packaging items will be collected annually in a geographical area of 783 thousand square kilometers across Turkey. HOW MANY PRODUCTS HAVE THE DP LOGO?In cooperation with the General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House, 22 billion beverage packaging items have been marked and released into the market since August 1, 2023. HOW MUCH ANNUAL PROFIT WILL BE GENERATED WITH DP?It is aimed to provide an annual added value of approximately 520 million euros to the national economy. WHICH PACKAGING WILL RECEIVE A DEPOSIT?Single-use packaging made of glass, plastic, and aluminum, ranging from 0.1 liters to 3 liters, has been included in the mandatory deposit scope. A deposit fee will be paid for these packages that have the deposit logo on them.
