In Adana, the Traffic Inspection Branch teams of the Provincial Police Department launched an operation targeting public transport vehicles that use unnecessary horns, do not wear seat belts, and talk on their mobile phones while driving in the busy streets and squares of the city. Civil teams stationed on the heavily trafficked Abidinpaşa, Sefa Özler, and Ulus streets identified bus and minibus drivers who violated the rules.
55 DRIVERS FINED, TENSION ROSE
As part of the operation, 55 vehicles were stopped by the police beyond the points where violations were detected. Some drivers attempted to argue with the police to avoid the fines. During this time, tensions occasionally rose.
"NO AIR HORN," HE SAID, BUT THE TRUTH CAME OUT
One of the minibus drivers who was fined claimed that there was no air horn in his vehicle. Upon the police's request, when the driver pressed the horn, it was found that there was indeed an air horn in the minibus.
ANGRY DRIVER LEFT THE AREA BY HONKING
During this time, one of the passengers who got out of the vehicle defended the driver by saying, "He had to honk when another vehicle squeezed him. The minibus was about to go onto the sidewalk." The driver, angry about the fine, honked repeatedly and quickly left the area.
A TOTAL OF 83 THOUSAND TL IN FINES IMPOSED
Another driver who was fined reacted to the press members. Another driver said, "A fine of 1000 lira was imposed when there was nothing at all. Arbitrary fines are being issued."
At the end of the approximately 2-hour operation, 55 drivers who caused noise pollution, did not wear seat belts, and were found to be talking on their mobile phones while driving were fined a total of 83 thousand lira.
