Action has been taken regarding speed signs that confuse drivers. Nearly 20,000 signs have been removed across the country, and speed limits have been reorganized in hundreds of areas. On the Black Sea road, traffic signs that suddenly lowered the cruising speed, with unclear scope and independent of residential areas, have been removed. In some locations, the speed limit has been increased from 82 to 110.
After the circular published by the Presidency on August 15, 2024, speed signs and zones have been organized in a specific order. In 2 months, nearly 20,000 traffic signs were removed, and new speed limits were determined on many roads.
SPEED LIMITS REDEFINED
With the removal of warning signs that led to penalties and suddenly reduced speed on the Black Sea Road, drivers can now continue their journey without confusion about where the speed limit starts or ends, thanks to uniform and clear signs. Unnecessary warnings and signs that conflicted with the Radar and Electronic Monitoring System (EDS) have been completely removed. Speed limits have been reorganized in different sections of the road.
SPEED LIMITS INCREASED FROM 82 TO 110
A comprehensive simplification was also carried out in Osmancık district of Çorum, one of the places where drivers reacted the most. Radar and EDS cameras that practically trapped drivers were removed. Warning signs that suddenly reduced the speed from 82 kilometers to 50 kilometers on the Istanbul-Tosya route were taken down. While the 82 km/h limit was maintained in the center of Tosya district in Kastamonu, the limit towards Samsun was removed and fixed at 70 km/h within the settlement. In Çerkeş district of Çankırı, the 82 km/h limit was preserved, while in Atkaracalar, the same speed was increased to 110 km/h. Speed zones in small settlements were completely abolished.
