After days of silence, Chinese automaker BYD made an official statement regarding the incident.
The company stated that the incident was not caused by any manufacturing or assembly error, and explained that the vehicle hit a hard object submerged under water while driving on a flooded road.
"CAUSED BY A PHYSICAL IMPACT"
According to BYD's statement, the severe underbody impact caused the relevant component of the vehicle to detach.
Technical investigations conducted by the customer service unit confirmed this finding through driving data and damage analysis at the connection points. The investigations stated that the hard impact caused the vehicle's rear electric motor to break free from its housing.
The company emphasized that the unusual incident was entirely caused by a physical impact, rejecting claims of manufacturing or assembly errors.
