Due to the price of asthma medication rising from $66 to $539 in the state of Wisconsin, the family of Cole Schmidtknecht, who was unable to afford the medication, has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and the pharmacy. The young man was hospitalized after using a cheaper alternative and subsequently passed away.
The family of Cole Schmidtknecht, who could not afford the asthma medication that increased in price by approximately $500 and subsequently lost his life, has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and the pharmacy that sold the medication.
HE WAS ONLY 22 YEARS OLD
Shanon and William Schmidtknecht claimed that their 22-year-old son, Cole Schmidtknecht, died because he could not obtain the asthma medication that had increased in price.
THE FAMILY FILED A LAWSUIT
The Schmidtknecht couple filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer and the pharmacy that sold the medication, arguing that the asthma medication, which was $66, caused their son's death after its price was raised to $539.
HIS CONDITION WORSENED WHEN HE USED A CHEAPER MEDICATION
The lawsuit states that asthma patient Cole Schmidtknecht went to the pharmacy on January 10, 2024, to obtain the medication called "Advair Diskus," which he had been using for about 10 years, and opted for a much cheaper medication after the price increased by approximately $500. The documents indicate that Cole Schmidtknecht's condition worsened after using the cheaper medication, and he passed away on January 21, 2024, in the hospital where he was admitted.
