In EDİRNE, the father D.A., mother B.A., and aunt S.S. of E.A. (15), who killed Gülden Coni (16) with 30 knife wounds and was sentenced to 19 years in prison, were tried for the offenses of 'destroying, concealing or altering evidence of a crime' and were sentenced to 5 months in prison each, with a good-conduct reduction applied. Reacting to the decision, Coni's sister Nurhan Alüzrek said, 'Although they learned about it 10 minutes after the murder, they did not call an ambulance or the police in any way. They left my sister to die for 8 hours, left her on that cold concrete. They hid the evidence, threw away the knife, and washed the bloody coats.'
The incident occurred on April 5, 2025, in the garden of Edirne Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School on Horozlu Bayır Street in Çavuşbey Neighborhood. Those who saw the person lying motionless in the school garden reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Upon the report, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. During the examination by the arriving teams, it was determined that the child, identified as Gülden Coni, had been stabbed to death. In the investigation into the incident, murder suspect E.A. was caught and taken into custody. After his procedures, E.A. was arrested by the on-duty magistrate court to which he was referred at the courthouse.
19 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THE KILLER
In the indictment prepared by the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, aggravated life imprisonment was sought for E.A. on the charge of 'premeditatedly, with monstrous feeling, by torture, intentionally killing a woman who, due to her physical and mental condition, cannot defend herself as a child'. At his second hearing held at the Edirne 3rd High Criminal Court on September 26, 2025, defendant E.A. was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the offense of 'premeditated intentional killing of a child and a woman'. The panel then reduced E.A.'s sentence to 20 years because he was 15 years old. Unjust provocation and good-conduct reductions were not applied to E.A.
The decision was appealed by the parties' lawyers and the lawyer for the Ministry of Family and Social Services to the Tekirdağ Regional Court of Justice 1st Criminal Chamber. Evaluating the parties' requests, the court decided to reverse the judgment given for E.A. The decision stated that a reasonable time had not passed for the incident to be premeditated. On February 12 following the decision, E.A. was retried. At the hearing, the court lifted the previous 'premeditation' ruling against E.A. and sentenced him to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentionally killing a child and a woman'. Because of his young age, E.A.'s sentence was reduced to 19 years.
5 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR THE FAMILY, SENTENCE DEFERRED
A separate case was filed against E.A.'s father D.A., mother B.A., and aunt S.S. for the offenses of 'destroying, concealing or altering evidence of a crime' related to the incident. The prosecutor's office requested that each of the defendants be sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 5 years. The third hearing of the case was held today at the Edirne 3rd High Criminal Court. Gülden Coni's sister Nurhan Alüzrek and relatives, as well as the parties' lawyers, attended the hearing. The defendants not in detention, D.A., B.A., and S.S., were not present at the hearing.
At the end of the hearing, the court sentenced the 3 defendants to 6 months in prison each for the offense of 'destroying, concealing or altering evidence of a crime'. With a good-conduct reduction applied, the defendants were sentenced to 5 months in prison each, and the announcement of the judgment was deferred.
'THEY LEFT MY SISTER TO DIE'
Speaking after the hearing, Gülden Coni's sister Nurhan Alüzrek reacted to the decision, saying, 'The mother, father, and aunt of the murderer who killed my sister with 30 knife wounds dragged my sister to death. Although they learned about it 10 minutes after the murder, they did not call an ambulance or the police in any way. They left my sister to die for 8 hours, left her on that cold concrete. They hid the evidence, threw away the knife, and washed the bloody coats. They destroyed all the evidence, and they were released without any punishment when the judgment was deferred; they received no punishment. We had this much faith left in justice, and it has now ended. We are waiting for divine justice. I entrust them all to God,' she said.
