U.S. President Trump welcomed Zohran Mamdani, who was elected as the Mayor of New York, to the White House. Trump drew attention with his positive remarks about Mamdani, whom he had previously called a communist. A reporter's question, "Do you still call Trump a 'fascist'?" marked the discussion. Before Mamdani could respond, Trump interjected, saying, "You can say yes," to which Mamdani replied, "Alright then."

New York's newly elected Muslim mayor Zohran Mamdani made his first official visit to the White House at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Before the election, Trump repeatedly referred to Mamdani as a communist, stating that the Democratic Socialist Party member would be "a really great mayor" for his hometown. Trump told reporters that he congratulated Mamdani during their meeting and that Mamdani promised to help lower prices for New Yorkers. Trump said, "I hope you have a really great mayor. The better he does, the happier I will be."

MAMDANI: I WAS PLEASED

Mamdani described the meeting as "productive." He emphasized that New Yorkers are struggling to live in the most expensive city in the United States and need affordable living options. Mamdani stated, "We talked about rent, grocery shopping, and public services. We discussed different ways to prevent people from being evicted. I was pleased with the time I spent with the President and the conversation. I look forward to working together to provide this affordability for New Yorkers," he said.

FASCIST QUESTION STAMPED THE MEETING

In response to a question about his previous comments labeling Mamdani as a "communist," Trump implied that Mamdani's views might change in the future.

After being reminded of Mamdani's earlier description of Trump as a "despot," Trump defended Mamdani, saying, "I've been told much worse than despot, so that's not so derogatory."

When another reporter asked Mamdani if he stood by his previous statements calling President Trump a "fascist," Trump once again came to Mamdani's aid, saying, "It's no problem, you can just say 'yes.'" Mamdani replied, "Okay then."
