The trial of Nuri Yalçın, who killed his bride Sibel Narin Yalçın with a pistol in Diyarbakır's Bağlar district, has begun. While the indictment seeks an aggravated life sentence, the defendant stated in court that he does not remember the incident.

74-year-old Nuri Yalçın, after cold-bloodedly shooting his daughter-in-law Sibel Narin Yalçın (44), told a neighbor "I shot her for honor." The younger grandchild describes a prayer scene while the older grandchild says "it was planned." The trial continues with a demand for aggravated life imprisonment.

The incident occurred on July 2, 2025, in the Bağcılar neighborhood of Bağlar district. Father-in-law Nuri Yalçın shot his daughter-in-law Sibel Narin Yalçın with a pistol, seriously injuring her. Sibel Narin Yalçın died, and Nuri Yalçın, taken into custody after the incident, was arrested.

ALLEGATIONS IN THE INDICTMENT

The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was accepted by the Diyarbakır 3rd Heavy Penal Court. The indictment stated that 15 days before the incident, Nuri Yalçın saw a man in his 20s at his daughter-in-law's door, on the day of the incident he came to his son's house in Malatya, sent his older grandchild away by saying "your uncle is sick," and then fired six shots at his sleeping daughter-in-law Sibel Narin Yalçın.

"I SHOT HER FOR HONOR"

It was reported that after the murder, Nuri Yalçın knocked on his daughter-in-law's neighbor's door, saying "I shot Sibel, come see" and "I shot her for honor." His younger grandchild E.B.Y. stated that before the murder, he saw his grandfather praying with a pistol in his hand, and after being taken to another room, he heard gunshots.

In the indictment, an aggravated life imprisonment sentence was sought for the defendant on charges of "premeditated murder" and "intentional killing of a woman."

DEFENSES IN THE HEARING

In the first hearing at the Diyarbakır 3rd Heavy Penal Court, the detained defendant Nuri Yalçın said, "I don't know why I came here, I swear to God I don't know. I don't remember anything. I can't even walk on the road, I don't know. I don't know why they brought me here."

Sibel Narin Yalçın's older son M.B.Y., in his statement given with a psychologist present, said, "He did such a thing after sending me away from home. He might have come with a plan, someone might have put it into his head." Neighbor C.K. stated, "I remember that when I went there, I saw the victim lying in the bedroom, shot in the head. I didn't see a gun in the defendant's hand; when I asked why he shot her, he told me it was a matter of honor."

I AM THE COMPLAINANT

Sibel Narin Yalçın's husband M.Y. stated, "I am the complainant regarding the incident. My father does not have any mental or psychological illness, but he is short-tempered."

COURT DECISION

The court panel decided to continue Nuri Yalçın's detention and adjourned the hearing until October 2.

It was ruled to obtain a report to determine the defendant's mental health and to request an examination from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding sexual abuse.
