China, which purchases a large portion of Iran's oil exports, is facing a serious risk due to a potential crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. As the world's second-largest economy, China sources approximately 90% of its oil from Iran. In response to the risk of the Strait of Hormuz being closed, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, "The security of the region is in the common interest of the international community."

Concerns have once again intensified regarding the possibility that the Strait of Hormuz could be closed following the U.S. airstrikes against Iran, which facilitates the transportation of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) production from the Middle East to global markets via the Oman Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Approximately one-third of the world's crude oil transported by sea passes through the Strait of Hormuz, while 20% of LNG trade is also conducted through this waterway. Major buyers of oil shipped from the region are primarily Asian countries.

DECISION TO CLOSE ISSUED BY THE PARLIAMENT

As statements from officials in Iran regarding the issue are closely monitored, Ismail Kavseri, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission, stated that the Parliament has concluded that the Strait of Hormuz should be closed, but the final decision rests with the Supreme National Security Council.

FIRST RESPONSE FROM CHINA

The first statement came from China, which receives 45% of its imported oil through the Strait of Hormuz. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "It is an important route for international goods and energy trade. The security of the region is a common interest of the international community."
