In the Bozdoğan district of Aydın, intervention against a fire spreading due to the wind has been continuing non-stop for 7 hours. In the area where land and air forces are being continuously reinforced, Turkey's largest firefighting helicopter, the CH-47 Chinook with a 10-ton water capacity, has also landed on the field, making pinpoint interventions against the flames.
A fire started in an agricultural and grassy area near the Yazıkent neighborhood of Bozdoğan district around 1:30 PM for an undetermined reason. The wind prevailing in the region spreading the flames over a wide area is complicating extinguishing efforts.
NUMBER OF TEAMS INCREASED
Intensive ground and air intervention by teams to bring the fire under control has entered its 7th hour. While the number of teams dispatched to the region has been increased to stop the spread of the flames, the vehicle fleet involved in the intervention was announced as follows:
- 8 firefighting helicopters and 6 aircraft
- 28 water tankers, 12 water carriers, and 3 bulldozers
"FLYING FORTRESS" HAS LANDED ON SITE
As air power was also increased to bring the fire under control quickly, the Chinook-type helicopter, Turkey's largest firefighting helicopter and nicknamed 'flying fortress', has also landed on site. The flying fortress, capable of dropping up to 10 tons of water at once, plays a significant role in controlling the flames with pinpoint strikes. The moments of the Chinook-type helicopter intervening in the fire in Bozdoğan were also captured on cameras. Extinguishing and cooling efforts continue in the region.
