A fire that started in an olive grove in the upper sections of the Mehmetalan neighborhood in the Edremit district of Balıkesir spread to forested areas within the borders of Kazdağı National Park due to the wind. Intense intervention continues from the air and on the ground.
A fire that started in the upper parts of the rural Mehmetalan Neighborhood in the Edremit district of Balıkesir quickly grew and affected forested areas within Kazdağı National Park.
INTERVENTION HAS BEGUN
After the fire, which started in the olive grove area, spread to the forested region, teams launched an intensive intervention from the air and land. While 4 planes and 2 helicopters provided aerial support to the firefighting efforts, numerous water tenders and ground teams affiliated with the Edremit Forestry Enterprise Directorate are also working on site.
MUNICIPAL TEAMS ALSO STEPPED IN
While Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality fire brigade teams also supported the extinguishing efforts, an intense struggle is being carried out to prevent the flames from spreading to wider areas within the national park.
It was learned that the teams are continuing their efforts uninterruptedly to bring the fire under control, and security measures in the region have been increased.
