The CHP evaluated the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to disband and lay down arms during a Central Executive Board meeting held immediately after the announcement of the decision. While CHP officials emphasized that the PKK's decision and statement were "a positive step for peace," they also noted that there are questions that need to be answered.

Evaluating the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to disband, CHP officials stated, "It is a positive step for peace, but there are questions that need to be answered."

The Republican People's Party (CHP) Central Executive Board met online today under the chairmanship of the party leader Özgür Özel. The most important agenda item of the MYK meeting, which Özel attended from Manisa, was the disbandment and disarmament decision made by the terrorist organization PKK just hours before the meeting.

FIRST COMMENT FROM THE OFFICIALS

Describing CHP's initial evaluations regarding the process, CHP officials stated, "The disarmament decision is a positive step in terms of peace. CHP desires the establishment of peace in Turkey more than anyone else. CHP has never denied the Kurdish issue."

Pointing out that the PKK's statement mentioned the Treaty of Lausanne and the 1924 Constitution, CHP members emphasized that the definition of a unitary state is included in the 1924 Constitution. Stating that the Treaty of Lausanne is the deed of the Republic of Turkey, CHP officials said, "Opening Lausanne to discussion means redefining a Republic."

"WHEN WE LIFT THE TABLE, THE US WILL BE UNDERNEATH"

Noting that the process, which started in the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 1, 2024, continued with the DEM Party delegation's visits to İmralı and evolved into the PKK's disbandment announcement, cannot be considered independently of developments in the Middle East, CHP members made the following assessment:

"Both the fact that Putin will make an agreement soon and that this event is happening today... The timing is not coincidental. There is no statement regarding YPG. PKK is disbanding. Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine are reaching an agreement above. Below, a policy for Syria is being attempted to be established. At the end of the day, when we lift the table, the US will be underneath. It is the infrastructure of a new Middle East project."

"THE KURDISH ISSUE SHOULD NOT BE ADDRESSED ONLY WITH SECURITY POLICIES"

Indicating that the AK Party's steps towards solving the Kurdish issue are not sincere, CHP members emphasized that CHP has a historically consistent stance on the Kurdish issue. They pointed out that the Kurdish issue should not be addressed solely with security policies, continuing their remarks as follows:

"Not only the Kurdish issue but also the fact that this is a democratization issue, the necessity of establishing a common life has been stated for decades. Until yesterday, those who called Kurds 'terrorists', who acted with a culture of reckoning and revenge, then presented a peace process, which then shifted to a trench policy, the Gar Massacre policy, and then backtracked; in other words, there is a politics that takes one step forward and two steps back in front of the Kurds."

"THERE ARE QUESTIONS WAITING FOR ANSWERS"

CHP members stated that there are questions waiting for answers regarding the PKK's disbandment and disarmament decision, recording the following: "In the text, it is stated that 'The way for democratic struggle has been opened,' but what is the way of that struggle, what is its method, what was given? What changed suddenly that this process evolved into disarmament regarding this democratic struggle environment? What will happen to the weapons, where will they be delivered? What will happen to those who disarm? Did these people disarm without any discussion? Will they say, 'Come on, Bahçeli wanted it. We disarmed'? What was agreed upon? What will happen to Selahattin Demirtaş? What will happen to Öcalan's process? If there will be an amnesty, which is mentioned as a partial amnesty, it is stated that 'There will not be a general amnesty.' Were these actions taken only in exchange for this amnesty?"

"THERE IS NO TRUST IN THE AK PARTY"

Emphasizing the importance of the unitary state structure, officials stated, "We will continue on our path by recalling our red lines and not deviating from our agenda. There is no trust in the AK Party. Today, they will do these things, raise their votes, and establish a foreign policy game. But tomorrow, there is no guarantee that they will not terrorize the Kurds again and enter a different process; we have experienced these. We cannot support a process in which Recep Tayyip Erdoğan protects his seat and where certain bargains are made for this purpose."
