The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it welcomed the disarmament of a group affiliated with the terrorist organization PKK in Sulaymaniyah yesterday, saying, "France hopes for the continued dissolution of the PKK, for it to be effective and verifiable, for violence to come to a definitive end, and for an inclusive political process based on democracy and the rule of law to be initiated."

A group of PKK terrorist organization members laid down their arms yesterday in a ceremony held in the Dukan district of Sulaymaniyah, in the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government.

In a written statement from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated, "France welcomes the disarmament ceremony of approximately 30 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is on the European Union's list of terrorist organizations, on July 11, 2025, in the Kurdistan Autonomous Region in Northern Iraq. This ceremony took place following Abdullah Öcalan's call on February 27 and the PKK's announcement on May 12, 2025, to dissolve itself and end its armed struggle. France hopes that the dissolution of the PKK will continue, be effective and verifiable, that violence will come to a definitive end, and that it will pave the way for an inclusive political process based on democracy and the rule of law."
