Aslan Özdemir, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, was arrested at Istanbul Airport after being detained on the tarmac upon his arrival from Marseille as part of the investigation into the publication of cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Moses in Leman magazine.

The editor-in-chief of Leman magazine, Aslan Özdemir, who was detained as part of the investigation regarding the publication of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Moses, has had a decision made regarding him.

DETAINED ON THE TARMAC

Aslan Özdemir, who was detained on the tarmac at Istanbul Airport after disembarking from a flight from France due to an arrest warrant issued against him, was taken to the Istanbul Courthouse.

ARRESTED

After giving his statement to the investigation prosecutor, Özdemir was referred to the Istanbul Duty Magistrate's Court with a request for his arrest on charges of "inciting hatred and hostility in the public or humiliation."

Özdemir was arrested by the magistrate court after his statement. Thus, the number of detainees in the investigation against the magazine rose to 5.

WHAT HAPPENED?

As part of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the publication of caricatures targeting Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Moses in Leman magazine, among the suspects detained, the owner of the caricature, Doğan Pehlevan, was arrested on charges of "insulting the President" and "inciting hatred and hostility in the public or humiliation." The editor-in-chief of Leman magazine, Zafer Aknar, the institution's director, Ali Yavuz, and graphic designer, Cebrail Okçu, were arrested on charges of "inciting hatred and hostility in the public or humiliation."

It was determined that Aslan Özdemir, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, who had an arrest warrant against him, was abroad and would be entering Turkey from Istanbul Airport.

Following this, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office instructed the police to capture Özdemir at Istanbul Airport.

Police officers assigned to the Istanbul Airport Branch Directorate detained Özdemir after he disembarked from a flight from France yesterday.
