The first statement from Mircea Lucescu, who collapsed and lost consciousness during the Romania National Team camp and was taken to the hospital, has arrived. The 80-year-old Lucescu stated that he became angry during the analysis of the Turkey match and that this is why he fainted, saying, "I did not have a heart attack in any way; I saw that some wrote that. There were only fibrillations."

Romania's head coach Mircea Lucescu, who was hospitalized due to his illness, stated that he has not calmed down despite several days passing since the match against Turkey in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers.
Speaking to the Romanian media outlet Golazo, Lucescu conveyed that his current health condition is good, saying, "I am fine now. When I started analyzing the Turkey match, even though three days had passed, I really got very angry. I felt very bad on top of that anger. I realized that I couldn't breathe normally."
'I DID NOT HAVE A HEART ATTACK'
The 80-year-old coach also denied the claims that he had a heart attack, continuing: "I did not have a heart attack in any way; I saw that some wrote that. There were fibrillations (a type of arrhythmia that causes the heart's upper chambers, the atria, to beat rapidly and irregularly). This happened to me for the first time when I was in Brescia, Italy. It was very cold outside at that time, and they took me to the hospital. They told me that if I couldn't recover from the fibrillation on my own, they would give me a shock the next morning, but by morning my pulse had returned to normal. I also experienced these fibrillations at the end of last year. I will undergo a series of tests tomorrow."
'WE COULD HAVE SURPRISED TURKEY'
The experienced coach emphasized that they made some mistakes in the Turkey match and did not capitalize on goal opportunities sufficiently. Expressing his anger for missing goal chances, Lucescu said, "The Turks could not maintain the tempo after the 60-65th minute, and we could have surprised them. Anyone who carefully analyzes the match saw that Turkey did not surprise us in any way and did absolutely nothing."
