The suspect in the alleged "assassination attempt" against former US President Donald Trump has been arrested and footage of the incident has been shared with the public. The Martin County Sheriff's Office shared the footage on their Facebook account, showing the moment the suspect was apprehended less than 24 hours after gunshots were heard near Trump's golf course in Florida. In the body camera footage belonging to the sheriff officials, it can be seen that 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, who is accused of targeting Trump with his weapon, surrendered peacefully following the officials' instructions. In the footage, Routh can be seen walking backwards, pulling his shirt over his head, and being led towards the vehicle with his hands restrained. One of the officials can be heard shouting commands such as "Driver, take two steps to the right! Step to the right! Driver, straight back, keep walking." Routh, who appeared before a judge today, faces two separate charges of "possession of a firearm" and "possession of a firearm with an erased serial number." The investigation into Routh, who has previously been convicted of other crimes, is ongoing. Yesterday evening, gunshots were heard near Trump's golf course in Florida, and it was later reported that he was safe. Donald Trump Jr., the former president's eldest son, announced on his X account that an AK-47 rifle was found in the bushes at the scene and a suspect was apprehended by local law enforcement after the incident. Sources speaking to AP stated that a Secret Service agent fired shots at the suspect while protecting Trump during his golf game. In an email sent to his supporters, Trump emphasized that he would "never give up" and stated, "Gunshots were heard around me, but before rumors get out of control, I want to say this: I'm fine and safe." The FBI announced that it was investigating the incident, which appeared to be an "assassination attempt" against Trump. US President Joe Biden commented on the incident, saying, "The Secret Service needs more assistance." Trump survived an assassination attempt on July 13th during a rally in Pennsylvania, where he sustained an injury to his ear.
