The funeral program for Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay, who passed away in the hospital where he was being treated for colon cancer, has been announced. A ceremony will be held in front of the Şehzadeler Municipality tomorrow at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral prayer at Manisa Republic Square after the noon prayer. Durbay's remains will be laid to rest in Koldere Neighborhood, where he was born and raised.
Gülşah Durbay, 37, who was elected as the Mayor of Şehzadeler as a candidate of the Republican People's Party (CHP) in the local elections on March 31, 2024, has passed away.
Durbay, who started her term in April 2024, was undergoing chemotherapy treatments after being diagnosed with colon cancer on September 4, 2024, following a bowel operation she underwent on August 2, 2024. Despite her illness, Durbay continued to work, but was admitted to intensive care on December 1 due to a deterioration in her health. It was learned that Durbay was single, and despite all interventions, she passed away today due to multiple organ failure. CHP Manisa Provincial Chairman İlksen Özalper, along with CHP Manisa Deputy, the heads of neighboring provinces and districts, and many citizens, came to Manisa City Hospital upon receiving the news of Mayor Durbay's death.
"WE DID EVERYTHING MEDICALLY NECESSARY, BUT THIS WAS THE END"
Manisa City Hospital Chief Physician Uzm. Dr. Serkan Saka stated, "Our Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay, who we admitted on December 1, 2025, passed away on Sunday, December 14, at 20:00. We monitored her for 13 days in our intensive care unit during this 14-day period. Her heart stopped around 19:00 today. Despite our one-hour intervention, she did not respond. We monitored her for multi-organ failure, metastatic colon cancer, and multi-organ failure. We did everything medically necessary, but this was the end. May the head of all Manisa, all Şehzadeler, and all her loved ones be healthy. May God have mercy on her, and may her place be paradise. May the head of all Manisali people be healthy," he said.
Manisa Provincial Health Director Mehmet Fatih Zeren expressed, "I especially wish my condolences and patience to her family, and then to all her loved ones. May God treat her with mercy, inshallah. May God accept her into paradise," he said.
"WE ARE ALL VERY SAD"
CHP Manisa Provincial Chairman İlksen Özalper stated, "You did not leave us alone here for days. We thank you all very much. Unfortunately, we are very sad. We are all very sad. May the head of all Manisa and all Turkey be healthy. We will probably share the official statements, that is, other statements regarding the funeral, shortly from the groups. We will also go to the press. But if there are no issues, we are considering a ceremony at the Şehzadeler Municipality around 11:00. Afterwards, we are thinking of the noon prayer, but we will talk to our esteemed General Chairman and then we will make a clear statement to the press," he said.
Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Besim Dutlulu said, "May God have mercy on her. May our heads be healthy. May the head of our nation be healthy. She was a very strong woman. She was a very strong person. Unfortunately, we lost her. We are all very sad. There is nothing to be done. May our heads be healthy."
FUNERAL PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
A ceremony will be held for Gülşah Durbay in front of the Şehzadeler Municipality on Monday, December 15, at 11:00, followed by the funeral prayer at Manisa Republic Square after the noon prayer. Durbay's funeral will be buried in the Koldere neighborhood of Şehzadeler, where she was born and raised.
MANISA LOST TWO MAYORS IN SIX MONTHS
Manisa lost two CHP mayors who came to office in the 2024 local elections. Manisa Metropolitan Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek (48) also passed away on June 9 after being severely injured by electric shock while intervening in a pool motor malfunction. Gülşah Durbay, 37, was elected as the first female mayor of Manisa as the Mayor of central Şehzadeler in the local elections on March 31, 2024.
