In Adana, a retired teacher and his wife waiting in the emergency lane on the highway were threatened by scammers posing as police officers and prosecutors, under the pretext that they were linked to a terrorist organization. Gendarmerie teams noticed the situation, had them hang up the phone, and protected the couple from fraud. Efforts have been initiated to apprehend the suspects.
In Adana, gendarmerie teams detected that a retired teacher and their spouse, waiting in a car on the emergency lane of the highway, were being attempted to be scammed by people calling from a foreign number. The gendarmerie team prevented the fraud by hanging up the phone and launched an operation to capture the suspects.
GENDARMERIE'S SUSPICION SAVED THEM
Highway gendarmerie teams affiliated with the Provincial Gendarmerie Command stopped to inspect a car waiting on the emergency lane of the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) Highway. The teams became suspicious when they saw the driver, learned to be a retired teacher, talking on a mobile phone and appearing anxious.
SAVED FROM FRAUD AT THE LAST MOMENT
During the inspection, it was determined that the driver, found to have been called from a foreign number, was being attempted to be scammed. It was established that the suspects on the phone, posing as police officers and prosecutors, were trying to intimidate the retired teacher and their spouse by claiming they were linked to a terrorist organization, in an attempt to obtain their money and valuables.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED FOLLOWING COMPLAINT
The gendarmerie team, which prevented the fraud by hanging up the mobile phone, took the victimized couple to the police station. Following the retired teacher's complaint, efforts were initiated to identify and capture the suspects.
